15 Times You Should Put Away Your Phone

Movies Since the earliest days of the cellular telephone it has been considered extremely rude to leave your phones ringer on when you enter a movie theater, but in the modern days of texting and Facebook people seem to think the rule no longer applies. This couldn't be further from the truth. There's nothing more annoying than paying $15 to sit in a movie only to have some d-bag ruining it with the light from his screen through the entire film. Here's an idea: Turn your phone off during a movie or stay home and rent a movie so you can text until your hearts content without wasting the $15 and annoying everyone else around you.

Stand Up Comedy Shows People think that just because they're in a large audience stage performers such as stand up comedians won't notice that they're texting during a show. The truth is they DO notice and most of them take a lot of offense to such behaviour. They're up on stage, putting themselves out there, trying to make you laugh, and you're too busy telling Suzy that you're bff's for life to pay attention. Not only is it rude, but it's distracting, and some comedians will stop their show to call you out on it. Spare yourself the embarassment and put the phone away.

Funerals This might sound like a no brainer, but not to people with no brains. You have to remember that not everyone at a funeral was close to the deceased and some of those people occassionally forget their manners and pull out their phones or forget to turn off their ringers. Do everyone a favor and leave your phone in the car. This is an event that is 100% not about you and whoever you're texting.

Weddings This seems like another no brainer. Wedding's are supposed to be about the two people up on stage getting married and texting or facebooking during the event is just rude. The one difference between a wedding and a funeral is that it's acceptable to have your phone out to take pictures during certain times of the ceremony. Don't try to take pics at a funeral though. That's probably bad taste

Church Church is boring. Everyone knows that, but if you're actually going to go it's probably a good idea to leave your phone in the car. Whether you take it seriously or not is irrelevent. A lot of people do and it's only common courtesy not to be a nuisance.

Job Interviews Again this might seem like common sense, but you'd be surprised how little common sense there seems to be in the human race. Studies show that at least 14% of failed job interviews are the result of the potential canditate texting or answering a cell phone during the interview process

Hanging Out With Friends It has to be seen as odd when you come across a group of young people hanging out together with their faces buried in their individual smart phones. What, exactly, is the point of going out to meet up with friends if you're going to spend the entire time texting your other friends who aren't there?

Walking Down The Street We all know how tempting it is to answer a quick text as you walk down the street, but this can lead to all sorts of injuries and even death. The Federal Bureau of Statistics estimates that nearly 35,000 deaths were caused in 2012 as the result of pedestrians being distraced by text messages while walking

On a Date There are a lot of ways to screw up a date. You could spill your drink on your date, or have a particularly smelly fart that sneaks out. But one way to send a sure fire message to your date that you're uninterested is to spend the entire time texting

During Class Not only is using your phone during class rude, it's also incredibly stupid. You're in school to get an education and it's impossible to learn anything when your attention is on your phone. Not to mention the fact that using your phone during a test is suggests to your teacher/professor that you're cheating, and will result in an instant zero. Put the phone away and pay attention to the lesson.

At Work We're all familiar with slacking off on the job. Everyone does it but at a lot of places using your phone during work hours can lead to termination. How do you plan on keeping up with that phone bill when you lose your job?

During Family Dinner Family dinner is not only an imporant social ritual for children, but it's a foundation for your entire family unit. Dinner doesn't imply sitting down at the same table and stuffing your gob with meatloaf. It's about the interaction between family members and the bonds that said interactions build. Your phone is in the way.

While Ordering Your Food There is nothing more annoying to wait staff than a customer with their nose in a phone while they're attempting to take an order. Put the phone down for the 15 seconds it takes you to order your meal and treat your server like a human being by smiling and engaging. Otherwise you might end up with some of the less pleasant bodily fluids in your dish.

Check Out at the Super Market As it is with ordering your food at a resteraunt, using your phone during check out at the supermarket (or any market for that matter) is beyond rude. Your cashier isn't a robot, they're a human being. Not only is it rude but your absentmindedness during check out will hold up the entire line.

Driving Seriously. If you're still using your phone while driving you deserve what you get. Countless deaths and auto accidents every year are attributed to a careless driver using their cell phone. There's no excuse for it at this point either. You're inundated with advertisements telling you how dangerous it is ever day.
